8 week old Shih Tzu crate training method?

I have a male 8 week old shih tzu which I am trying to crate train. I know crate training involves patience and the puppy will cry in the beginning. However, I tried to bring sammy in his crate whenever he is sleeping or not playing. He does not like it much and walks out but I keep bringing him back in. This happens about 8 to 10 times and every time I will say "sammy go home" when I put him in. After about the 10th time, he will lay there and go to sleep. I found that this method involves less crying and I dont know if that kind of training is okay for him. I do this whenever hes sleeping so that includes days even if I am around and not just night time. This way the neighbors and roommates will not have to hear him cry as much at night. Am I doing ok with sammy ?
