So why do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Im just asking cause everyone seems to celebrate it but no one seems to actually have Irish heritage. I celebrate it with my family but we're Catholic and for us its a feast day. So, just out of curiousity, why do you celebrate St. Patrick's day?
